Touching down

There are a few airports in Malaysia and you would land at the one closest to where you will be receiving your treatment. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is Malaysia’s main airport. Situated approximately 80km away from the Kuala Lumpur city centre, the state-of-the-art airport offers various modes of transport, as well as a number of hotels surrounding it.

Staying in the city
The city of Kuala Lumpur offers a wide variety of lodges, motels and hotels that charge varying rates. Where you stay depends on what kind of experience you would prefer. Bukit Bintang is perfect for mall shoppers. Pudu and Petaling Street, which is a stone’s throw away from the Puduraya Bus Station and the renowned Petaling Street shopping area is ideal for those who want to experience a bazaar atmosphere or simply to be close to the city’s central bus station.

A reasonably comfortable motel room will also include air conditioning and heated water. Those seeking luxury will find it in abundance in the city’s numerous three, four and five star hotels that offer all the expected trappings including gyms, swimming pools, themed decors, fully air conditioned bedrooms and stately bathrooms. To find and book hotels in Malaysia, please visit the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) at www.hotels.org.my. It is advisable to secure your bookings with hotels at least one month in advance. Peak holiday seasons including mid-year school holidays and year-ends are the most fully booked times.

Traveling in the city
If you are planning to rent a vehicle during your stay, there are numerous options available including international car rental companies.

If you would rather opt for public transport, you can choose from buses, trains, monorails and taxis. All-day bus tickets can be purchased for around RM2 (USD0.60), allowing you to hop on and off at any destination. At between RM2 (USD0.60) and RM4 (USD1.20), monorail tickets are a slightly costlier, albeit more modern way of getting around the city. With tracks elevated above the streets, they are also good for avoiding heavy traffic, although you may be faced with packed cabins during rush hour. KTM trains are also available, although the availability of other more convenient modes of transport makes these vehicles more suited to long distance travel.

Taxis are easily available throughout the city, and can be identified the 'TAXI' signed on top of the car. Rates are reasonable but as is the case at the airport, travelers should avoid being overcharged by ensuring the taxi driver uses the meter before embarking.
